Evaluation of “The Future is in Our Hands”

This documentary does a good job of informing the audience. There are multiple times throughout the film where facts were read off or were displayed on the screen, such as “4.5 billion for repair of federal buildings to increase energy efficiency using green technology.” This documentary did a good job of expressing logos which is the use of facts and the use of logic. This documentary also did a good job of persuading the audience by using pathos which is the use of emotions. The documentary was able to get on an emotional level when pictures of decaying earth and facts about dying animals were presented. By using pathos you make a huge impact on your audience. This documentary did a great job of effecting change because there were several visual metaphors that made the audience think about what the world is becoming. Also, pathos and logos helped with the effect of change because facts and emotions are major key things to have to persuade an audience.

What worked in this documentary was the presentation of facts. The facts were liable and they were cited which enhances ethos which is credibility. Also, the interviews that the documentary had were full of efficient and useful questions and answers. The main purpose of a documentary is to inform and to persuade and both of those key factors were expressed in this documentary.

What didn’t work in this documentary was the overall editing of the film. There were times throughout the film where a voice over was running while someone was doing an interview. This created a distraction and that distraction takes your audiences mind to the mistake not the information the documentary is trying to express. Also, from time to time facts were not displayed long enough to read and comprehend them. The clarity of the sound and the clarity of some screens need more improvement as well. Overall, the editing could improve for this documentary.

During this project I learned how to construct an effective film. I learned about various camera shots and how to make the film interesting. I also learned that a lot of research is needed for making a film. Throughout the process of researching I learned how to make efficient notes which helped speed up the film making process. By researching sustainability, I learned that there are several ways I can make a change in the world. Before I would not advocate going green, but after doing this project I have found that going green is easier than one may think. Blogging helped with expressing the emotions and information that I experienced during the film making process. It allowed me to vent my ideas in a productive manner and several people from around the world were able to watch our progress. By making this documentary I learned new things about organization. I learned that managing your time well makes every step a little bit easier and it reduces the stress level. By working with others I found that your organization skills have to be very good. When working with others you have to plan times that work for everyone. Also, working with others requires you to accept the new ideas your partners may have. While making this film my writing improved because I have learned that proper grammar should be used whenever you are writing for the world to see. Also, I have broadened my vocabulary which enhances my writing. Finally, I learned how to persuade and audience more efficiently.

I will use these things I have learned in the future throughout the rest of my life. I will use the new organization skills and writing skills to enhance my GPA. Also, I will use the new techniques of persuasion for job interviews and College interviews. This project has made me a better prepared person for the future. It has helped me emotionally and it has helped me to become a better student.

Why the Brain isn’t Green

  • The human brain reacts to taxes better than self decisions concerning the environment.
  • The human brain has to sometimes be told what is right and what is wrong
  • Carbon taxes are an example of how helping the environment is implied by the government.
  • One of the main problems is that the government is pushed around during the attempts to save the Earth.

I agree that the human brain needs direction. We need to find a way of telling the world do this or this will happen. We can’t force this idea on them, but we can give the world a reason on why they should this. We also need to show them the consequences because sadly people need to see it to believe it. That is our role. We need to show the World what we are doing is wrong and then show them why. This is why we are making a documentary.

Fixing the economy Vs. saving the world

  • the economic stimulus and the attempt to make a greener planet have been formed into one thing
  • a stimulus will affect a the environment in the long run
  • becoming greener could affect the economy drastically

I am curious to see how this will all pan out. I believe that if you incorporate un-economic ideas into a stimulus, those ideas are followed through. The economy can be that spark to light the match of become a greener state, country, and world. My only question is, is America, the World ready to change? Or is our economy going to blunder in the attempt of a better environment?

The Environment < Economy??

Published by under Uncategorized and tagged:

  • Humans care only about how they can survive.
  • Humans are concerned with themselves more than the other inhabitants of the Earth.
  • The economy is more important to the people than the environment.
  • in order to prosper we need a healthy environment
  • wastes can hurt a wallet too

I agree that the human race is concerned only with their well being. That is true, but what the human race is not aware of is that if they don’t have an environment they don’t anything to base an economic life off of. If all the gas is used and all of the trees are cut down, what happens next. This would tie in with the sustainable living because we need to show that living sustainably allows us to continue a productive economy.

Story Board

Click on this link to watch the film about making a story board, By Matthew Needleman.

  • I learned that as you make the movie, don’t limit yourself to your original stroy board.
  • I learned that leave room for change in your story board.
  • I learned that the rule of thirds helps make a more interesting shot. When the actors pass over the intersections you get a better shot.
  • I learned that you should have notes to explain what each scene needs in order to be successful.

Camera Shots

Published by under Uncategorized

Wide Shot:

I would use the wide shot view because I can then use props surrounding me and I can use an appealing background to get the viewers attention. This shot shows emotions through the movements the actor makes.

Medium Shot:

I could use the medium shot so that the viewer is more focused on what the person is saying instead of looking at the background. This view should be strictly on what the person is saying and nothing else. Also with his shot no one is distracted  by the person walking around, but they can still see the hand movements. This type is good for interviews. Makes you focus on the criteria not the emotions.

Close Up:

I would use the close up view for times when I do not want the viewer to see any hand movements or pacing. Like the medium shot, this is strictly about the facts not the actions. This type is used to show emotions on their face not their eyes.

Extreme Close Up:

I would use this angle for when I want to add the effect of intensity and to show the emotion in someone’s eyes. By adding emotions I can increase the impact of the message we are trying to show.

Answers to myth 3

Published by under Uncategorized

  1. How harmful can nuclear power be?

Nuclear power is only harmful when the waste is left in ponds and other natural areas. It actually is better for the air and emits no toxic and harmful fumes. However, it can have a negative result on the neighborhoods around the nuclear plants because radiation can be given off.

    2.  Would using nuclear power help the environment and help the economy?

By using nuclear power we can help the environment because it would cut back the amount of CO2 emissions that gasoline give off. Yet, on the other hand nuclear power can have a negative result on the animals that are exposed to the radiation nuclear power gives off. Using nuclear power could hurt or help the economy because the engines created could be over priced and because the nuclear engines make cars more dangerous car insurance rates would increase. Yet, nuclear power could be really cheap, therefore saving a lot on gas for cars which is the source of lost money.

    3.  How efficient is nuclear power compared to the other sources of energy?

Nuclear power can run longer than other types of energy sources. An example is the use in subs. Solar powered engines aren’t used for subs because they wouldn’t last as long. Nuclear power packs a punch so to speak. It can endure more work at an efficient rate as well.
